***Rooost IronMan Triathlon Challenge Update***

Throughout the month of June, the team at Rooost have been undertaking the components of an Ironman Triathlon – a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bicycle ride and a 26.22 mile marathon – a total of 140.6 miles in aid of The Bobby Moore Fund and Cancer Research UK.

There have been updates along the way – and we are delighted to confirm that Luke swam the equivalent of nearly ten Triathlon swims; Ben completed the bike ride; Ken has completed all three!

In describing what the Ironman Triathlon Challenge meant to him, Ken commented, “At our monthly senior management team meeting in May, we agreed to adopt The Bobby Moore Fund as the Rooost charity and discussed how we will raise money for this worthy cause. The idea of completing one or more of the components of an Ironman Triathlon in a month came about because those present either swam, rode a bike, or ran''. Ken continued, “To begin with, I only considered doing the marathon – roughly, eight 5k runs. This was because of a number of reasons – namely, I was still recovering from my third bout of COVID-19; I had not been on a bike in a very long time (although my wife and I recently purchased an exercise bike); fitting a swim into my daily routine is challenging with the nearest swimming pool being a sixteen mile round trip. However, when I broke the components down into half hour sessions – approximately, a dozen 14k bike rides, eight 5k runs and four 1k swims – I Identified that this was close to, adopting the NHS guidelines of 150 minutes (5 x 30 minutes) of moderate intensity activity per week. Therefore, I thought I should give it a go”. Ken concluded, “It has been great to have the Ironman Triathlon Challenge activity target to aim for in the month. I have thoroughly enjoyed engineering my day to accommodate and undertake thirty minutes of exercise – and, of course, there are the health and well-being benefits too!”.

Whilst Rooost is, primarily, a business accommodation provider for contractors who are working away from home, we strive to give the contractors in our care the best possible home-from-home experience and we also encourage contractors to use their downtime effectively  and provide advice and guidance on topics like stress management, sleep, health and well-being – even yoga

Irrespective of becoming fitter and healthier by undertaking the right exercise programme for you, it is known that physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier, more relaxed and less anxious. You may also feel better about your appearance and yourself when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. These are attributes that will support contractors to perform at their best whilst on their assignment. The NHS provides some great guidelines on physical activity and we advocate that you find a programme that suits you – whether you are on assignment or not.
